Borrow another set of headphones you know works fine.

See if it does the same.

Gently wiggle the plug in the jack while you are listening to the sound by grasping the actual plug, not the wire.

If your headphones works fine with other devices, you jack in the laptop likely has a cracked connection (cold solder joint).

Call Dell support if it is still under warranty. They will repair it.

Not under warranty; then take it to a computer tech who familar with Apples.

Good Luck.

It should work with your headphones. There is nothing wrong with the computer itself, but you should take it back to the store because the connection to the headphone jack is probably broken.

Happened for me too. If you have had your laptop for a while, and you use your headphones a lot, you probably broke the jack. I took mine to a computer store, where they happily fixed it for mot that much money! :) Hope i helped!

Sounds like a headphones kind of issue.
Get new headphones and you'll be fine.
Sometimes they get damaged if you expose them to very high volume.
Good luck :)

call dell's customer service line. they will send someone to your house to fix it. they just came to my house today to fix my husbands' laptop. his hinges were loose and they put a new screen on in 15 minutes.
