Can Venus Flytraps open their mouth to eat a fly or two during fall and winter or are they completely a sleep?

they die back like most perennials. As a matter of fact a lot of newbie VFT owners throw their plants out thinking they have died. VFTs can tolerate temps as low as 20 degrees, but should be moved into an unheated garage or garden shed if the temps drop lower than that. However, if they are planted in the ground then you can simply cover them with mulch until spring.

Here is some information you may find helpful in raising your VFTs.

VFT NoNos:
No Meat of any kind
NONONO fertilizer of any kind. Plant only in 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite.
No tap water. Use filtered tap, aged, or distilled (preferred)

Good Luck
