People are such assholes these days because people have always been assholes. Unless we genetically re-engineer ourselves, then people will always be assholes. Mostly this results from the tension created by the agenda of the larger society conflicting with the more narrow and often selfish agendas of individuals. The complaints we make about the poor behavior of people (mostly the younger generation) have been common place throughout human history. The Emperor Augustus complained almost daily about the loose morals and lack of social responsibility displayed by the younger generation of Roman men and even passed marriage laws in an attempt to address the issue. People are people. they act in what they perceive to be their own self interest, quite often regardless of whether or not the larger society approves or not. This is just part of the human condition.

The real answer is to improve yourself and your abilities and try to ignore all idiots who think they are the best and Earth won't spin without them living on it. Also try to focus your attention on the older generation and their way of living when they were young, since they were and continue to be more considerate towards people around them and they do not impose an aggressive and unrealistic image of themselves.

Belittling someone in someway soothes/ bolsters ones ego. Basically anyway you can display dominance over another makes you feel good. Or too put it more blunty; humans are nothing but another species of animal trying to assert dominance over each other in the name of gathering resources. Its all survival instinct really.

No culture. Just TV and commercials. Nothing but lies. No one wants to share with or care about anyone but themselves. Economically motivated societies will always fail because they strip the masses of their worth and give them nothing in return. Leaving them no choice but to turn on each other. Insanity.

People get a sick pleasure out of hurting others. It's a form of abuse through passive-aggression. It's so common that I believe it to be in our DNA. We are basically monkeys in suits, wolves with thumbs.

Difference of opinions have got people heated up on this website. Don't worry, its not like this in real life when people debate and have discussions. I guess some people have to get things off their chest here without fear of prosecution or being judged.

Ok, Here ya go. This will not be short or complete. There will be many possible angles not covered. I will not try to defend every point I make here. Anyone that has spent a few years of study in history will see the logic here. If you have no background in history... well, I am going to trust you will at least try to look back in history to see what I am about to say has much truth in it. ...
In short, there have been times in this world when standards of behavior existed. Of course, there have always been those folks that violated those standards. Most of them were either punished to a point where they at least did not violate those standards or were removed from society for their acts.
Today no violation is great enough as there are no standards left. Everything is a gray area of life, of law of right or wrong. You can get away with anything if you scream, cry or swear long enough. And if by chance you get tired some knuckle dragging putz lawyer will do it for you... sometimes that happens even if the "perpetrator" doesn't want them to. There is no line that cannot be crossed. All truth is relative, at least to those with no moral compass to follow. What is truth to me does not have to be truth for you and you get to voice that loudly. You can lie, cheat, steal, rape, murder all on camera with perfect video and sound for all to see and walk free to accuse employers, police, teachers, parents (even parents of the victim) of causing you to do such things.....
That is what happens when there is no solid standard in place to guide behavior. Have sex with a child or an animal and claim you have that right because you were born that way... Ok, what if the next guy was born to kill... or grow to be mega wealthy, or feed the hungry... no, can't let that happen. You might run out of hungry people. Then this guy is unemployed and up pops another thieving legal mind to rape society of money for his own perversions. ...
See the cycle cannot end without a standard... Note: One standard, not one per person...
100% agreement is not required for a standard to be in place. For the sake of discussion say 60% agree... That... there will be 100% participation in that standard.... The remaining 40% have a decision to make. Most historically will go with the path of least resistance and follow the 60%.
Of those remaining some will choose to start a war over it. Some will become or remain lowlife scum sucking pukes and blame it on the 60% or at least blame their fathers, police, second grade teachers but will not look in the mirror to face themselves...
The government is nothing more than a reflection of what standards are actually in effect... Not laws, but what society is really doing, believing and accepting. Law does not create standards and cannot enforce them if society simply ignores them or tolerates those who do.
Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of Great Britain for years..... She was quoted once saying "Leadership by committee is the abdication of authority".... Who is responsible if no one is accountable... Ever seen an entire committee go to jail... Doesn't happen...
I could go on, but you get the picture...
You ask what this world is going to... Hell would be accurate.
So having said all this what are YOU going to do?
I for one choose a standard. Since society (that part with sufficient influence) has none chooses to follow Paris Hilton and laugh at Jesus. Jeffry Dahlmer (the cannibal) has followers that must laugh at Mohammad as being to mild.
I am not remotely turning this into a religious thing, but showing that there are real centuries old standards that today are convenient for cameras, but not how people who espouse them live at all. Those who really genuine establish sane standards for themselves and families are scoffed at...
1. Don't lie
2. Don't Steal
3. Don't Cheat
4. Follow the rules of the road
5. Drive defensively
6. Don't hit things...
Those are my standards. You will note, to violate one causes one or more to be violated as well.... Not so difficult or lofty. Just rules that work. They work every time they are tried, by everyone... But they won't make you popular or rich. But they get me to work on time daily. People around me know they can trust me to help in a pinch etc.
Now, it is your turn... What standards will you set for you?? Not your neighbors or the world.... Start with what you can actually control and change if needed.... Yourself... maybe someone else will follow your lead and change too. No politics, no fad... just solid standards you can live by even when others will laugh, scoff and scorn you for it. Not religious, just honest. Careful, you will lose friends.... yes, you will. Not because you are mean about it or accusatory toward their lack of identifiable standards, but because you have some at all ... that is all it takes... So the world will frustrate you anyway. You can choose to live how you like... What is your choice... Write it down, really... ponder, consider what changes you want then carve them in your heart.... Best of life to you... :)
