I dont mean steal it, I mean like they were throwing it out. I found a great bookshelf this weekend and nothing was wrong with it. At first I didnt want to, but then my BF talked me into it.

Absolutely! I like to go garbage picking, some people throw away stuff because they get tired of looking at it, not because it's worn out or broken.

In most localities if something is out in a trash dumpster it's considered up for grabs. You don't have to ask anybody, just snag it. I wouldn't pick up clothes from the trash :p but household goods in decent condition are awesome! We have a terrific lawn chair that my hubby found in the dumpster. Nothing wrong with it. I guess the owner was just tired of it. It wasn't even dirty! It has a cushion with lilacs on it. I love it. We've found beach chairs, too. Alot of people will buy beach chairs to use just for the day and leave them by the trash cans. They are perfectly good.

Yes take it. I have found lots of stuff in trash piles with little or nothing wrong with it. Sometimes all you have to do is clean it up a little. It is then good enough for your own house or put it up for sale.

Oh yeah! Your BF is a smart fellow. If you feel uncomfortable, knock on the front door and ask. Most people put things out in hopes that someone will take it - besides the garbage man. :)

Nothing wrong with your taking what was already not wanted, or it wouldn,t have been in the garbage! As the saying goes, "One man,s junk is another man,s treasure" So happy that you put it to good use, that,s re-cycling!!!!

yes--we have a few "new" chairs for out in the yard & my son built himself a working computer from different things he has dumpster dived for (he's a nerd lol). It helps keeps stuff out of the landfill.
