Focus on schoolwork more than friends and the guy you like. Your schoolwork will get you much further in life than a bunch of people that are "friends" now but you won't see ever again a few years from now.

Well, everyone goes through that point sometime in high school. There's a lot to juggle - classes/grades, extracurriculars, work, friends, family...ahhh!
My suggestion is, if you think you are overwhelmed and you can't handle it, then you should drop something, like a class, or an activity. It might sound hard to do, but it's better to be able to devote more time to other things than to just "skim the surface".
If you really don't think that's something you can do, then maybe as the year continues, you'll get more used to things and manage your time better. This happens a lot after school just starts because you have a tough time getting back into things.
The best thing you can do, beside dropping a class, is just managing your time as well as possible. For example, if you're reading a chapter on something and you know you're going to have to do problems later on, or take notes on it, try to get as much as you can done at once, so you aren't overwhelmed by it later.
Don't stress yourself out too much, it's physically and mentally exhausting. Make sure that on top of everything, you eat well, get some sleep, and even have a little fun!

you and your parents should decide what is really important and concentrate on that and let the rest of it slide.
