You don't fix them, you replace them. If they are the straight old school type, they are really easy to do and not too expensive. What year , make and model van are you working on?

You probably have a front wheel drive van and need struts on the front and shocks on the rear. This would be about $450-500 and includes adjusting the front end alignment. Better plan on all day.

If it is a rear wheel drive van and has four shocks on it then this would run you about $200-300. About $50 a shock and .3 hours labor each. No alighnment unless you ask for it. So that's $200 parts and about an hour labor. I think Pepboys sells package deals and this is cheaper when you get the package verses a pieced together parts and labor estimate. I think the package deals only charge for the shocks and the labor is free if you catch a "special".

If they have to cut off the old shocks with a cutting torch then they may charge more for labor and new bolts of they don't come with the shocks.

The $50 each shocks have a lifetime warranty and there are cheaper shocks that may or may not have a lifetime warranty.

Good Luck!

Should take about 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs to replace each shock/strut.

I don't know much about a Toyota Previa, but that's the estimated times.

depends on the type of van ford, chevy, toyota, etc, etc
for the most part labor will be around 1 - 2 hours per axle if they are shocks. the parts $45. - $95 per shock

if you have struts labor will be around 2-4 hours per axel, the parts will be around $95 - and up & then you'll need to do a alignment.

you can have to combo of struts on the front & shocks in the rear

or you could have struts all the way around

per the labor guide

both rear .8 of a hour
both front 4.0 hours + combo of up to 1.6 additional
+ alignment at 1.0
+ parts (which napa does not list)
& they will have to bleed the brake system once done
