18.499>8.500. You shouldn't even need to think. What's greater, 8, or 18? 18, clearly. You don't even need to look at the decimals.

I bet someone made a typO and they got Halloween on there (just kidding... their) mine.
Anyhow,
8.5 > 8.499 (8.499 is actually 1/1000 less than 8 and one half)
18.449 > 8.5 (what they're trying to tell you here, it is ovious that 18 is greater than 8 no matter how many decimals there are.

Out of these two numbers, I believe 18.499 is the greater number.
