So im a little new to sportbikes... Im almost 18 and I've been riding around on a 1981 Yamaha Maxim 550 and I can control it easily. I want to get a new bike and was thinking about either the Kawasaki 650r or the ZZR600. I was really into the 650 until i saw the ZZR. Although im not paying for it my dad wants to buy me a Harley Sportster Nightster. Stuck here and need some suggestions. Horespower, Torque and how they stack up against each other. I dont wanna get bored and im not a crazy rider.

As you probally know the ZZR600 is twice the bike in every catigory-power, stopping and cornering. Both bikes will walk all over the Harley in those catigories also.

I bet "gwynny" is one of those Harley guys that thinks Sportsters is a bike for girls and wimps. Well, it's every bit as much a Harley as any of the others and the newest version is much improved over the previous models. The rubber mounted engine helps immensely. Sporster or not, it'll hold its value better than the Jap bikes will. Keep in mind that few people can really take full advantage of the speed, accelleration and handling of the current sport bikes. That said, an average rider on the Harley would probably keep up under most conditions with an average rider of the other bikes. Maybe not straight line accelleration and top speed with the ZZR, but a good rider on a common bike can keep up or pass a poor rider on a hot bike. Like the time I was with a couple of young guys on Suzuki sport bikes on a curvey road. They were hanging off the seat around corners but I had no problem keeping up with them on my 720 pound KZ 1000 touring bike loaded down with fairing, bags and trunk, traveling gear, sleeping bag, tent, frying pan and a truck load of camera equipment. Whether you're talking sport bikes, Harleys, choppers or what, it's the person that makes the bike and not the other way around.

I am getting sick and tired of people that don't know their *** from a hole in the ground saying "I hate this bike or that bike" or "That bike sucks!".

My suggestion is to talk to your dad, make a deal with him that you'll take the bike for 1 year and if you don't like it you will give the bike back to him.

Harley Sportsters are pieces of crap. It's the Harley for people who can't afford a harley. If he wants to buy you a Harley, tell him you'll take a Dynaglide and nothing else.
