I worked with Persiphone as co-author on two novels. I would take her suggestion. There is a lot to know besides sitting down and writing. If you don't know the in's and out's, your just wasting your time.
Good Luck!

Trust me. Go to yahoo groups and look under 'writing'. I AM NOT paid by Yahoo to say this. I am now a published author due to the simple fact that I joined several writing groups and they are unbelievably generous with information on writing. They are free to join, easy to leave, and are just great.

The Weekend Novelist is very good. Really breaks down how to get started and how to keep going. I forget the author, but it's pretty easy to find.
