We all love our troops, no matter what party we hail from. What we have is a difference of opinion on how those troops are being used by our government.

For the conservatives: Give the troops a little credit. They are smart enough to realize that dissent at home about our mission doesn't mean we don't care about them or the fine work they do as asked. Stop accusing liberals of not supporting or caring about the troops - they do, just as much as you do.

For liberals: The conservatives love the troops too. They believe in Bush's mission so not bringing them home en masse doesn't reflect on how they feel about the troops personally. Most of them aren't facists intent on destroying our country, they are just convinced we're doing the right thing.

I wish we could all talk more civilly about it. Without all the condemnation/mud slinging/name calling. I'm tired of seeing the troops being used like a push pull toy. Who cares the most? It's not a contest, we ALL care.

true1:
First of all, thank you for your service to your country.

I have never said, nor have I thought that this is an illegal war, but thanks for assuming I feel that way.

Bruce:
I'm not going to call you a liberal or any such nonsense. I understand how you might feel that way and it's your right. I don't agree, but that's neither here nor there. My family does support the troops, and yes, by sending numerous care packages through my husband's union local. But I have spoken out against the contrivance that got us into this war and the incompetence that has made it a study in chaos. I do believe most Americans support the troops, even if it's only keeping them in their prayers or even just thinking about them once in a while and being grateful for what they've got.

And those people you divided up into three groups? They may have had one reason for signing up, but after getting there they are all having the same experience and taking the same chances while we are comfortable here at home discussing them. I have a lot of admiration and respect for them. There's nothing wrong with serving your country and getting an education at the same time.

And those you think just signed up for the bloodlust? Well, maybe they did, but how hard is that to understand after what happened on 9/11? I think those feelings are tied to a patriotism that resides in most American's hearts. I would gladly pull the switch on the SOB who planned 9/11. I won't call you a liberal because I don't consider that an insult. But it bothers me that to you it's so black and white - the feelings that prompted our men and women to join the military and go to Iraq - over and over and over. It's not ever that simple. People are not made of groups of collective thought. Everyone has their own personal reasons for joining the fight, and it does make me sad that you believe none of those reasons are good enough to support their efforts.

Sorry, to go on, but your post really bothered me and I had to have my say.

Well said Elway. Star for you.

The constant fighting over who loves and supports the troops more is starting to sound like a bad divorce/custody hearing. Most of us support the troops and those who don't have their own issues to deal with. Let's drop the fight over who is a bigger supporter. It gets us nowhere.

You've actually forgotten a third group. Those of us that truly don't care about the troops. I am one such person. My reasons are simple.

There are 2 kinds of troops in Iraq. The first group: those that signed up before the war. I have no pity for these guys because they joined the military to do...nothing. In peacetime, our military is a playground for kids that want money for college, or for uneducated yokels to make a living. The second group is the guys that WANTED to see action. After 9-11, there were HORDES of young men who wanted to join up. I'm reminded of a line from 'Full Metal Jacket'. Matthew Modines character says,'...I wanted to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed kill.' This describes a HUGE amount of the recruits after 9-11. They screamed about patriotism and revenge, without ever stopping to question if there was a DIRECT connection between 9-11 and Iraq.

SO....we have a group that wanted to free load and a group that wanted to go kill brown people. You might say,'But there are also the men that joined up because they thought it was thier duty.' Well, if they still thought that after looking over the facts in an unbiased way...they are not the sharpest pencils in the box.

I might be wrong. I might be a bad person. But....the above reasons are why I don't really care about our troops. They signed thier lives over to the government without thinking twice about whether this war was right or wrong. They promised to murder other human beings without question. It is the most despicable action I can think of. And, before you point your finger and call me a 'liberal' or a 'hippie', I can assure you that I am not against defending America with deadly force. I just don't like murdering people in a foriegn land over thier oil fields.

I would even go one step further. I think it's fashionable to say 'I support the troops', but I doubt many Americans would go out of their way to do so. If you truly support the troops, you would write and send them care packages. VERY few Americans do this. Yeah, they support the troops. As long as it means they don't have to do anything but put a yellow ribbon on thier SUV.

I am just pointing out the hypocrisy of those that don't support the President but will support the troops who agree with him. You think I enjoyed my year over there? Not one bit. I missed my family dearly while I was gone and now miss my sanity a little. But I believe it had to be done and am proud to have been a part of it. The UN sure wasn't going to take a stand. They just make resolutions and do nothing when Iraq refused to comply. 17 Resolutions!!!! WMD was only a small part of it.

Riddle me this Batman. UN inspectors verified by number and type of WMD. Iraq was to destroy and account for all of them. They couldn't do this. Many are unaccounted for. Doesn't this bother you? It bothers me that we didn't find them. Many say we didn't find them because they don't exist. They did exist and it was documented. Where are they now? In the hands of terrorist or another rouge country? God I hope not.

I'll give you a star though for helping me make my point.

No, I prefer to expose the policy's of the left. Liberals support the troops by making sure the troops know they are not effective and should just go home, and let their fallen friends die for nothing.
Liberals support the troops by accusing them of torture and rape, and murder, and making sure the enemy knows that.
Liberals support the troops by demanding the enemy combatants are released so they can kill more troops.
Liberals support the troops by only reporting USA troop deaths and never reporting how many terrorist were killed, or by calling Islamic terrorists "insurgents".
Liberals support the troops by threatening to withhold funding for the war thus forcing a panic withdraw.
Liberals supporting the troops, that is like saying "I'm pro-choice but, I support the baby". O' wait,,,,,,,,,,liberals do that too.
