I have no plans to do this but my boyfriend thinks that it would be fine to leave a baby home alone for a few block drive while i would take him to work. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever done this and what your opionin of it is?

Your boyfriend is stupid... what if the baby gets choked, house catches fire, your neighbor that you have known for years (which may be a sexual predator) kidnaps your child

No, that's just not on, you can't leave a baby home alone for any length of time. What if someone was watching the house and broke in when they saw you both leave? What if the house caught on fire in the short time it took you to take him to work? What if you had a car accident on the way to drop him off, or got held up? There's a hundred what if's...anything could happen to a small baby, even to a young child, while you are both out of the house. Not to mention how scared the baby would be if they woke up to an empty house and started crying for you, and you didn't come!
You should never ever leave a baby alone.

Don't EVER do that.
If something happened - house fire, burglary, or what of you were in a car accident? No-one would know the infant was there, so what could happen to it? Please, these things may never happen, but the guilt over it if it did would be horrendous.
Just like you shouldn't ever leave the infant in an unattended car. We had one locally where the Mum stopped at the local shop to pick up milk, and left the baby in its car seat. A druggie saw the car and took it, BABY IN THERE!
Fortunately the Druggie had a conscience and dropped the child off at a daycare center but it took the police 5 hours to locate the child and tell the Mum it was safe, no parent would want to go through that.
Remember you chose to have a child, and adjusting to the little inconveniences of that choice is what parenting is all about. Take care of your family.

First of all it is completely illegal. It is called neglect. I think the reason it is so bad is that if something did happen (like a fire) the baby would be totally helpless. I agree that the chances of anything dreadful happening are very small (that's the good news) but, the consequences of it are too awful to take the risk.
I put it in the same category as using a car seat. It's not that likely that anything would happen (that's the good news) but, if there were an accident the consequences could very well be deadly. I had an agreement with my husband before our child was even born that neither one of us would ever (except in an absolute emergency) use the car with our baby without using the car seat. I just felt like if he ever did it and something happened to our baby, I would truly never be able to forgive him. Our daughter is 18 now and very healthy!!

If you think your child would be safe you are wrong, so many things could happen and it is illegal. The one way to convince people who think nothing can happen if I put the baby in bed for a few minutes while I run a quick errand is "Just imagine if you got in a wreck!" Don't you even leave a baby alone in a house! It is illegal and you can have your children removed very quickly for placing an infant in that position. Tell sorry hind end to get his own car or walk and use protection next time. Sorry but this totally pisses me off! You gotta know better.

No!
I'm hoping that this is a joke.
It's never okay to leave a baby home alone, even if it's for 5 minutes. Things can happen. Someone could break into your house and take it. Something cound find it's way into the poor thing's mouth and it would choke. You could get into a car accident (most happen on short drives) and your baby could be left unattended for hours, even days depending on the situation.
There are just too many "what ifs". I've never heard of a baby being left home alone. I would never think about doing it. How hard is it to strap the baby in a carseat anyways?
I hope everything works out. Good luck.

Never never never do it. First, it is illegal to leave a child home alone. If you got caught, you'd probably lose custody. Second - what if you crashed on the drive? No one would know you had a baby at home, and what would happen? The baby would probably starve to death.
I will not even walk down the hallway of my apartment building to do the laundry when my baby is in the apartment.
BTW your boyfriend is an a** if he thinks that is ok. I'd never leave the baby alone with him.

No its not OK. A baby can suffocate/chock in seconds. A predator can see you leave and hurt or take your baby in seconds. Chances are slim but why take a chance at all. If your boyfriend lives only a few blocks away from work he can walk, even if its in Alaska. He'll be fine... better safe then sorry.

you're in all threat going to get a terrific variety of in no way bypass away your toddler on my own. in spite of if; i've got self assurance that as long because of the fact the toddler is secure you may bypass away your toddler on my own. I survive a terrific variety of land and interior the summertime i could decrease the grass. in the time of nap time i'm exterior and quit each and every 15-20 minutes to bypass in an verify on the babies. babies would be injured while you're status staggering next to them. we can't defend and watch them consistently. I do experience that leaving the section for extra suitable than 10 minutes is somewhat too plenty. once you're interior the domicile do you watch your babies consistently? maximum in all threat no longer they're allowed to be by themselves.

I think it's time to reconsider your boyfriend's moral and mental state! If you did do that, what next? No car seat? Leave the baby home so you could go party?
Heck no!
Hand him a few dollars and tell him to take the bus, or tell him to get a bike.

I understand his feelings - almost certainly the baby would be fine. BUT there is always the chance something happens. The apartment could catch fire, the baby could get its head caught in the crib, you are in a car accident and hospitalized and no one knows there is a baby starving in your apartment, etc... You take that chance with a pet dog, but not with something as important as a kid. NEVER!!
