I was wed in 1959 and will celebrate 50 years in two years, God willing, of course. It was a small country wedding with around 40 people attending. I've never been happier!

1985 it was mainly just family and a large handful of friends. Sadly tho it wasn't what I really wanted and I just went along with so called 'well meaning people' and so I didn't have the dress or reception I would have liked. Because I already had 2 children from a previous relationship I was told I cant do this and I cant have that, etc etc so I missed out on all the excitement of planning and having a lovely wedding. I was told I couldn't even have a wedding gown so I didn't. I really regret listening to all that stupid advice.
The service was lovely tho and my hubby was sooo handsome it cant have been all that bad. We are still married 22 1/2 years later and we still love each other so that's what counts in the end.

My husband and I married in 1962. We were both in the army.
And we were both married in uniform. I was only 18 and be-
cause of that, we couldn't be married on the base in the little
chapel near the WAC battalion. So we were married across
the state line in S. Carolina, in the judges chambers of the
courthouse in the little town there. We expected the judge,
but he went fishing we were told. So a JP married us, who
was a lady. A rarity in those days.
Later, we had a 'confirmation' ceremony in the little chapel,
and my girlfriends boyfriend was our best man, and a favorite
sergeant stood with me. And we had a small reception
afterwards. It was the longest wedding day LOL. Oh, and
because I had to get ready for our trip the next day and was
not able to have a pass that evening, I stayed in the barracks
ironing my clothes, and my hubby was wandering around the
little town looking for a movie. So we didn't have a 'wedding
night' LOL. That's one for the books, isn't it? LOL.Then to
add insult to injury, we had two days on a Greyhound bus to
Texas, and I'd been visited early by the man on the white
horse as we called it then. You'd think my marriage would
have been doomed the way we started off. But we've been
together for 45 years and still counting.

Married my high school sweetheart in 1966. We were both 19 at the time. In the State of CA back then a female was legal age at 18 but a male wasn't legal till the age of 21 so hubby's Dad had to sign for us to be able to get married.
My Mom made my wedding outfit; the woman was an artist with a sewing machine. It was a beautiful coat-dress outfit. Simple sleeveless white brocade dress and sleeveless coat to match over it. And I wore a little veiled white pillbox hat & white pumps.
(my mom made all my clothes practically. Back then at 105 lbs and wearing a size 3, find clothing to fit was a nightmare.)
Just a few people my hubby worked with and his family, probably less than a dozen people altogether attended.
Hubby's Mom made some eats for afterward and made the cake.
Hubby and I had $200 to get married on. We got our license, I bought him a $20 gold band & 2 corsages for us & paid the priest to marry us. We spent 3 days in a town about an hour from here on our honeymoon before he had to return to work.
I've thought of it through the years and I still feel the same. The wedding wasn't at all important to me. I was far more interested in BEING MARRIED to my sweetie. He's still my best friend and number one lover after 41 years together so I think I had my priorities straight.

I got married in 1993 too. I am divorced now also and have been for 10 yrs. THANK GOD!!!
We had a huge wedding 300 guests, a choir, french trumpets, an arch of flowers down the isle. It was ridiculous.
If i ever get married again i want it small. I would love to get married on an island somewhere, maybe Puckett. Wearing a white long slip dress, no shoes, maybe some flowers in my hair. My partner in white linen. And maybe a horse to ride away on. Oh yeah, on dusk too with heaps of candles scattered around.
Dreaming is good huh!

I was married in 1984. We went (from WV) to VA to get married and did so in a pastor's home. The wedding party was only 5 people, including us. We stopped on the way and bought my groom a $10 wedding ring. My ring was my mom's old one cut down from a size 8 to a 5 1/2. Both rings were so lopsided that when the pastor said something about these 2 'perfect' bands we burst out laughing.
McD's on the way home was our wedding feast. Later we met my mom and friends at a local place belonging to a co-worker and celebrated with everyone.
BTW, I worked 1/2 a day that day and was running late and everyone thought I had bailed. ha!

We were together for 6 years when we decided we wanted to get married and start a family. We got married on December 23rd 2001. We were 20 and 21 years old.we couldnt get the familys together (didnt get along then) so instead of spending lots of money and having no one show up because they didnt want to see each other. We decided to have a JP and I bought an old antique wedding dress and got married on front of my parents fire place next to the christmas tree. We invited everyone in our family and only our best man/lady. Even thow like we said.. half the fam didnt show up. we made the best of our wedding and even thow it wasnt a fairy tail church wedding. It was a dream come true. The only person I seen, was my husband looking back at me.
Also, We got pregnant with our first on our wedding night and that made it special too. Then after we bought our first home on dec 31st we got pregnant and gave birth to our 2nd on the exact date we bought the house. Now we have been married for 6 years and were now due with our third this nov. 12 years and going strong!

Wow, am I really on the seniors site? Not one of you got married as long ago as I did. But of course I was just a little girl. 1959, I was 16, husband was 19. We had a minister and three friends. He was on a 3 day pass from Fort Campbell Ky.
We had two daughters. The second time I was 19, he was 24, we were married 20 years and had two sons. I've been divorced for 27 years, 4 children,11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and I am such a happy and lucky lady.

I got married in 1982. I was 21, and he was 28. We had about 100 people there. Friends and family. It was a beautiful fall wedding, and we set it up early enough so everyone could still go to their high school football games. We'll soon be married 25 years, and sometimes I can't believe it's been that long. He's my best friend, and my love! :)

1973. It was a very small wedding if I can call it a wedding because it was a month after my dad's death.
My wedding was not even close big or beautiful compare to what today's newlyweds do.
Does it matter for surviving the marriage? Nope, not at all! We have made almost 33 years.

Married since 1975 by the JP in Denver. It was a November wedding and 75 degrees that day. Our best friends and my parents and one sibling were there. We had cake, champagne and a keg of beer. We stayed overnight at the Ramada Inn for our honeymoon. My husband hocked his pistol for the announcements. We were so poor back then! 32 years this November!!
