Usually libel and slander requires that a few things must be true:

1. One party knowingly says something in public about another party that is false. Person A must know that they are lying about Person B.

2. Person A must have the intention of causing some kind of damage to Person B.

3. Person B must prove that they have incurred some measurable damage as a direct result of the untrue comments made by Person A.

Usually number 3 is the hardest condition to prove.
