If it's chronic and acid comes up your throat with pretty much everything you eat, it's acid reflux and you need to see a doctor so you don't damage your esophogus. If it's just heartburn it's what your eating that's the problem. Junk is a big contributor. Dairy can also affect it. I've found eating vegetables with most of my meals and snacks helps a lot! It balances out the acids in your stomach and helps you digest what you eat. Now, tomatoes don't count because they are so acidic. Eat well, don't eat late, cut out junk and soft drinks, drink lots of water and see if it helps. Good Luck!

eating too fast
spicy foods, fatty/fried foods, alcohol, coffee
eating and then laying down right after

to fix:
eat slower, chew ur food well, and don't eat right before bed(wait at least 3 hours). at the first sign of heartburn drink a large glass of water.

eat smaller, more frequent meals.

elevate ur head in bed.

best wishes

You should be able to call your doc office for a suggestion of what you can use safely. I lived on tums when pregnant so I know how you feel. Good luck.

There is something called a hiatal hernia that CAN cause this. However, IF you do have this problem please try to find a chiropractor who can treat it before you submit to any surgery, etc.
