No. But they say it feels great. It must be addictive.

Well... having lived celibate for most of my life, I can honestly answer that no it is NOT NECESSARY for people to have sex... for emotional reasons or for physical pleasure... we can definitely live without it. Take THAT you priests!
As for pro-creation, nope, we dont need it for that either. Our technology is advanced enough that no human MUST have sex to pro-create. So the human race will never be extinct. Take THAT you fundies!!
*EDIT*
Id like to comment on the point biguy89 brought up... about not wanting sex at all but showing affection in other ways.
Before I came out.. when I was "dating" men.. I liked them fine.. was very good friends with some of them.. very close to a few of them.. but I never wanted to have sex with them.. because I WASNT ATTRACTED to them sexually.
I KNEW I could care for a man if sex was not involved but in the back of my mind I knew it was a relationship I longed for because SOCIETY said I must. It was NOT what I personally longed for... I wanted it all. All the things society said I must want.. I wanted the husband, the best friend, the house with the white picket fence, the kids (how I was supposed to get them I wasnt sure)... I wanted it all.. but I didnt want to have sex with him.
How many of us WANT something simply because we THINK its what we are supposed to want? And why do we not rail against it? Why MUST WE HIDE WHAT WE ARE!!

No.
Relationships are about love. Not sex.
Sex is ok,
but at the right time, and for the right reasons.
Quickies are nice too - sometimes.
