Don't real southerners want their own country anyway so they can fly their confederate flag?

Yankees should be banned from any opinions regarding the south. They are ignorant of the facts and real issues that made Jefferson Davis the best President ever. Just as today the people are led to beleive well drafted govt lies so back then it was also. Lincoln did not take back the south and while liberals and hippies burn the US flag, no true southerner would ever think of burning the Confederate flag. We fight for this country but are disgusted with what you Yankees have turned it into. We are just to civil to start another war between the states.

I would have to say no. You have to look at the real reason that the Civil War was fought. Slavery is really a secondary issue. The Civil War is about a state's right to leave the Union should they disagree with the policies of the Union. Had Lincoln allowed the South to secede it would allow other states to leave the Union as well. Eventually, we would have been a number of individual countries rather than one country simply as a result of regional interest. What is good in the Midwest may not be good on the Coasts. What is good for New York might not benefit Kentucky. The Union becomes much weaker if states are free to leave whenever they feel like it.

Nope no mistake since the Southern States did not reenter the union during his Administration. Most reentered during the Hays Administration. The carpetbaggers and Scalawags had pretty well decimated the south by that time and Hays thought it was time to stop the nonsense and start healing the nation.

Why would the confederate flag be condemed? Perahps there is a lot of histrory you need to catch up on.

I bet you did not know that no slave ship ever flew the confederate flag? Bet you did not know that Massachusetts was the first State to legalize slavery? Bet you did not know that it was New England that made the most profit on the slave trade. Get a histroy book.
oh and by the way, Lincoln only wanted to force the South to stay so he could keep the revenue and control the warm water ports. the South was supplying 75% of the Gov't revenue at the time.
Does thumbs down mean you are afraid of the truth?

It's an interesting question. I've often found myself wishing that the southern states were not part of the USA. They just seem to generally have a much more conservative viewpoint than the rest of the country.

Then I remember that if Lincoln hasn't taken the South back, they would have continued slavery. So I have to say no, it wasn't a mistake, but I wish the South would secede now.

Mr Obama can do whatever he wants. He is no longer answerable to the voters. In so far as taking his plan to the people, that is well and good, but the people cannot vote for his plans any longer; it is now up to the elected officials
