I was supposed to be a boy my mom said so when I was born I really didn't have a name for a couple days. The day we went home she finally thought of a girls name.
My daughter got her name from a girl who was my best friend in grade school. When my daughter was born nobody liked her name which is Stephanie since it was so uncommon in 1986. Now when people ask her name they think it is beautiful.

my mom named me.

And when I was 3 months pregnant I just really believed I had to have a name right then and there. I was looking names up on the internet and I couldn't find anything I really liked so I flopped on the couach and said "OK God you gave him to me you name him." the name Christopher Alexander came to me in that moment and that is how he got his name. I love it and funny thing is I never liked the name Christopehr until then nor would I ever had used it otherwise. It means defender of Christ.

I'm from New Orleans and we like to give names that have meaning. Lots of times its a conglomeration of people and ideas put together to mean a certain something that the child will carry throughout life. I believe its important to name a child something with a positive message. My name, for example, means "receives abundance gracefully" and my middle name means "God's creation in everything". Its important to look up what a name means. You don't want your name to mean something bad like: has troubles with this or that or something mean spirited, or dumb, or stupid. See what I mean. I believe that even if we don't consciously know what our name means, we do know it unconsciously. And, I know for a fact that if you call someone something long enough they will start to believe it. Choosing something beautiful will always be a blessing to that child.

My uncle basically named me. When my mom was born, my uncle wanted to name her Ann Elisabeth, but my grandma liked Mary Lee more. Then when I was born my mom took my uncle's suggestion & named me Ann Elisabeth.

The coolest name choice I know is my best friend naming her daughter Madelyn...because it's a combination of her & her husband's names - Matt and Carolyn.

My dad named me, actually.

My name is Allison.

He worked for Allison Transmission and when the company in Ohio went out of business, he missed working for the company so much that he named me after it.

My sister's name is Jessica and she was named after the Allman Brother's song, entitled 'Jessica'.
