dont go after emerging technos,
even today c/c++ market is unbeatable
but u need to be master in the field u want

Unless you are looking to be a freelance consultant on a specific technology, you will need strong background in algorithms, data structures, OS fundas, database and networking fundas, system programming. ASP, Java etc. will come and go but if you don't have the basics you won't get a job. I have been in the industry for 10+ years and this has always been the case.

Ajax , Java Server Faces, Oracle Applications 11i , Oracle Database 10 g and 11 g , PHP are good options .
