You don't need much because the hospital will give you a lot. Bring a comfy outfit to go home in for both you and the baby. Bring a blanket to bring the baby home in. You'll need your carseat and carrier of course to bring the baby home. Wipes, diapers, and all that stuff is provided by the hospital. I had my husband bring me a few things I wanted when he went home to shower and rest a little bit after I had the baby. On his way back he brought in some yummy fastfood. I packed the whole world in my diaper bag and felt silly once I realized I didn't need all of that.

PACK TODAY! Put in a nice bathrobe and some comfy slippers, and a 'clean outfit' to wear home. Take a good book, your hairbrush, some shampoo and conditioner, and any make-up you usually wear. Also get a good 'baby book' and a nice pen and tuck that in ... have the 'visitors' to your baby sign it, and include any 'pictures' of the new little one. Also pack an 'outfit' (usually a one piece pajama, with a matching 'hat' and a receiving blanket ... add a heavier blanket in case the weather is 'chilly' when you and the baby are released. Take your coat, but don't 'pack it' because you will probably need to wear it to the hospital. Even if you go to the hospital in your 'night gown' and have NOTHING for either you or the baby to wear home, though, you WILL be given clothes and some supplies for both of you, and they'll even find you a ride home ... so DO NOT WORRY ... and Contratulations ... you are about to get a new name ... Mom. I'sn't that a WONDERFUL sound?

I would also pack a pillow from home that you dont mind if it does not return home...
my second suggestion would be go to Walmart or somewhere like that and get a pack of granny panties that you will not mind throwing away. They are far more comfortable than the "panties" that they give you.
my third...If you are picky about your fem. products I would buy your own pads for after the bleeding slows a bit...I would use the hospitals for a while but not after it slows a bit I would have your own...unless they have the ice pack pads....those are nice for swelling!
Congrats and good luck!

Just a soft LOOSE nightgown for yourself, if you plan to breastfeed then go to the maternity for one. A set of loose clothing for when you go home, even without a C section your belly will be a little out of wack so looser is better. An outfit for the baby of course. An infant car seat - they will not let you leave without one! Camera and if you have other children bring them stuff to do while they wait!
Brush, toothbrush/paste...essentials are a given but those at the top are for after delivery! If all goes well they won't keep you more then 2 days!

I took clothes for my self. I took a diaper bag with clothes diapers wipes etc. You will also want to have your own pads. Trust me, you dont want to have to wear hospital pads the whole time your there. As far as when to start packing, I cant say. Just pack whenever you feel you need to. Pack today if you want.

Here's a good site that i used when i packed mine. I found it very helpful. Make sure to have it ready at least 2 to 3 weeks before your due date. it can come so fast you might not remember to grab it. Good luck!!
