Cutting the tag off your mattress. You know, the one that says "do not remove under penalty of law" or something like that. That's not deviant. Sex crimes, child molestation and other crimes of violence are deviant.

The biggest difference between deviant behaviour and a crime is, that a crime is against the law, while deviance is only against social norms.A crime has an added characteristic in that a law has been passed against it, making it a crime or criminal offence.Deviation is what is defined as not normal by norms, values, or laws. This could be something like wearing the wrong kind of clothes to a party or killing someone – deviance is behavior that is not seen as acceptable or normal.

Depends on how you define deviant. If you mean outside what most people consider normal or socially accepted behavior, then all crimes are deviant.

But almost all traffic violations are not considered deviant, failure to file tax returns is not deviant. What is considered 'deviant' by most involve sexual crimes. Most people don't consider straight prostituion deviant, but sexual contact with minors is.

Historically, the courts are very leniant on vigilantism and crimes of passion. The former being the primary one I can see as explainable. This would be a case, and they do exist, where say I father shoots a person who raped his daughter.
A crime, yes, deviant, nope.

Deviance is term meaning "different" from the normal occurrence of humanity.

Prostitution and drug use are not very deviant. Prostitution is a victimless crime, as well as drug use, but they exist only to satisfy human needs and addictions.

some just have more shame and judgment attached to it than others (child molester vs. a robber)

ALL crimes are deviant; that is why they are crimes. If people did not deviate, there would be no crime.
