Don't see how you mean that.

Governing body makes rules.
Participant cheats.
Governing body enforces rules.

End of story.

No, F1 has not shot themselves in the foot.

Most fans are only concern with the drivers championship. The FIA did nothing to either Alonso or Hamilton. They will be allowed to fight for the drivers championship.

Only the teams get any satisfaction of winning the constructors title.

Who won the 1994 drivers title? Michael Schumacher his 1st, but who remembers that Williams won the constructor championship that year? Same with 1982. Keke Rosberg won the drivers championship, but Ferrari won the constructors cup. Most Ferrari fans don't even remember that!

And remember, next season, any team can buy anyones car and use it in the championship legally. So in other words, Ferrari could sell McLaren an F2008, and McLaren could use it to win the drivers title next year. The likelyhood of Ferrari and McLaren doing this is nill, but according the 2008 rules, this is possible.

This ruling will hurt McLaren in the pocketbook, but F-1 will continue to shine!

totally, this is unreal...I thought it was just it was the constructors points/championship that was being hit...I thought the drivers could still get points... I think to much is being made of this....I'm sure glad FIA doesn;t run Nascar, we'd be screwed big time..

It does seem an awfully large fine, but they are still in next year's F1 championship.

If it is indeed true, then mclaren deserved it, so I think it's a fair decision.
