My shower stall is just hard plastic (no glass or metal whatsoever), and has had hard water stains since before we moved in to our apartment. The stains vary from being orange, to nearly black. I have tried Fantastic, Comet, Scrubbing Bubbles, Clorox...but to absolutely no avail.

We are moving out of our apartment on the 24th and desparately need a cure for this problem. I heard that distilled white vinegar works well on glass, but can it work on plastic, too?

Please help! I'll try anything!

White vinegar does wonderful things to hard water stains and soap scum; Comet and Clorox are just plain abrasive and have deteriorated the glaze on your shower to the point that what you are seeing as "nearly black" may actually be the porous part of the synthetic material your stall is made from. If that is the case, there is probably no saving this fixture short of refinishing. If I were you, I would ask neighbors in the complex if they've experienced the same issue, and if so, plead normal wear and tear.

Get this stuff called CLR (calcium, lime and rust remover) or LimeAway at a grocery store or home improvement store. Spray it on and keep it moist for abouit 15 minutes (respray if necessary). Avoid contact with the skin, because it is corrosive (wear those rubber gauntlet gloves). Use a wet terry cloth to scrub the deposits away (they should turn mushy and come off easily).

Oh, and avoid breathing in the fumes. It can damage sinus tissue and your lungs.

You need a mans cleaner for this one.
Get a spray-bottle of Super Clean (made by Castrol), spray affected areas and let it sit for 20-30 min. Then rinse. May need to repeat a 2nd time.
