Christmas - don't swear I hear some of you say.

Again the shops are already stocking (no pun intended) Christmas items. Would anyone join me in a campaign to stop anyone selling anything to do with Christmas until at least the first of December.

Some shops are also open on Boxing day. Come on Britain lets get back to the good old days when a public holiday was a public holiday.

I agree it's the children that suffer. I can remember when Christmas seemed to take an age to come aroun. Now the children have their summer holidays (UK) and the Chritsmas stock is in some shops before they have even gone back to school.

Lol. I agree. All I'm trying to do is enjoy the last bit of summer we have left, but instead, I walk into my local tesco for a crisp bottle of vino, only to be offered buy one get one free on Barbie Advent Calendars.

And with regards to boxing day - I totally agree. Boxing day is for nursing hangovers, left over turkey and enjoying crap TV, it shouldn't be about the shops trying to make yet MORE money.

great Q.

If people didn't buy the stuff, the shops wouldn't stock it. There is obviously a market for it.

What's wrong with shops being open on Boxing Day? In Australia that is when the sales start. Public Holidays mean some people have a holiday but lots don't. They get double time for working on a Public Holiday, though. There is no difference between shop assistants and bus divers when it comes to working on Public Holidays.

While I agree it's way too early, not putting the stuff out until December 1st is way too late. It will just make people more miserable because by the time the 1st comes everyone will be racing to the stores to buy their Christmas stuff that it will create even more chaos. I think that they should start selling in November, that way everyone can have all their decorations by the 1st and not have to rush to get it.

It is the people that buy early and often that enable the stores to make drastic cuts on prices the week going into Christmas. If you are like me and do all your shopping on the 23rd or 24th, then you have to appreciate that it is the early sales (or lack thereof) that enables some of us to maximize our savings. If your plan is adopted, then stores will make record profits and things will cost more.

Do you really want that? The key to saving $$$ is to tell your family you will not exchange gifts until after New Year's when the prices are REALLY in the basement.

So, I will agree to your plan if you agree to mine.

I am with the others... at least hold up the stocking until after Halloween!!!

I personally prefer to start getting in the spirit round mid November, just after my birthday. Before you know it, with the current maddness the pre-christmas sales will begin January second in a few more years.

yes I know what you mean. Christmas in the shops begins in October and you're sick of it by christmas eve!! I firmly agree with you although I disagree with the decorations coming down on boxing day in the shops AND the January sales should start in January and not on boxing day!!!

btw just to let u know - there's only 14 weeks until christmas ;)

For several years now most chain stores sell Mince pies in November now at one time they were only sold in December
I prefer Christmas shopping to be Nov 1st to 23rd Dec to buy fresh poultry.

Count me in. I'll back you up and support you all the way!
It's my birthday 6 days before Christmas and my birthday spoils Christmas and Christmas spoils my birthday as few people actually remember my birthday as they are so panicked about Christmas. If they remember my birthday at all, my presents are wrapped in Christmas paper. No use at all. I don't wrap their summer birthday presents in Christmas paper!

Christmas is for kids and its cruel making them see all this stuff and they think its just round the corner not months away I'd sign a petition to stop its wrong.
