you type a long and detailed answer to a question only to find 9,357 people have got there before you? I dont type slowly but how fast are they? Super flippin human!

Yes very. Another very annoying one is when you answer a question, which need a bit of thought and time because it's about something like a relationship or "womens health" and as you press submit, the question has been removed! Drives me mad that.
On the rare occassion I get in there quick and am the first to answer, I usually see later that I was in fact the only person to answer!

Ha Ha, join the club and have a star. When I check to see if my answer has been posted I automatically go straight to the second page ! I don't think I have ever answered first. I am thinking of offering a bribe to someone to alert me when they have posted a question and block the ones likely to get in first with their answers, so that I can have the pleasure of seeing mine as the 1st answer !

Well it works to some peoples advantage when they put a single letter in, so they are first, and then go type an answer 20 minutes later

They are likely giving one word answers to collect the two points and move on to the next question rather than giving the question some thought and perhaps gaining 10 more points for best answer.

yes, or to find out that the question was DELETED...It usually happens when I have spent quality time on a very pointed and detailed answer...and then I say D'OH and tsk,tsk..really loud and angry like.
