I'm thinking of writing a book about a 16 year old girl who falls in love with this 30 something year old man who dumps her when she gets pregnant. When she tells her mom, she kicks her out. Is this a good idea or not? Please don't sugar coat anything. I'm 17 but I can take it :)

As the previous answer says - it is a starting scenario but you need to plot - what happens to this girl if she leaves home as a result. For a plot, you need to know much, much more about your leading character - is she smart, is she dumb, is she gifted? Does she have the baby, or not? Touchy subject that could decide what your readership is!
Is she talented, is she able to fend for herself. What are her dreams and ambitions? What relatives can she rely on for help?
What is she interested in, what movies does she like, what books does she read? What happened to her between zero and sixteen? Where is her father?

WHY SHOULD THE READER CARE ABOUT HER????

If you can answer all the questions, then you can decide what her goal is and what obstacles could prevent her from reaching those goals. Then you might have a beginning plot!

It really isn't a plot. It is more of a situation. You really need a lot more information for it to become an interesting plot. And you need a lot more character analysis. Right now, what you have is pretty cliche as others have told you. It is Lolita. So the question is how do you intend to make it different? What can you do to make the plot more diversified and interesting? If you can come up with something, then go for it. But as it is right now - it's Lolita only with the mother alive. And you would have to address such a subject very delicately because it is pedophilia since the girl is a minor. A lot of publishers wouldn't touch it. Pax-C

I agree, it sounds a little cliched, like a "cautionary tale," but it's really hard to tell from a brief synopsis. I think the writing is what is most important. I mean, this story could be great if the characters were really fleshed out and you wrote about emotions in a way that a lot of people could relate to. You have to make a character that is powerful enough that readers will care what happens to her.

I think as of right now the story is a little vague and played out, like something you'd see on Lifetime TV for Women.

Honestly, I don't think that sounds interesting. It might appeal to older readers though, I'm only fourteen.
