As I recall, it was an error in translating "Monkey" by the game's Japanese developer that led to the name.
And you have to admit, "Donkey Kong" is a much more amusing name than "Monkey Kong."

Ok so the creator made that character to make fun of some people and thats why he called him Donkey meaning stupid
