As an example, why do liberals who hate Bush insist on hating him for being a racist, despite the fact that he has more minorities in his white house than Clinton? Or why do so many conservatives insist on believing all the lies about the war in Iraq despite all the evidence to the contrary? This is not a partisan question, I think everyone is guilty of this.

These are just examples! Even if you haven't heard of them, I'm interested in my question itself.

I hear Bush being called a racist all the time. I'm always forced to jump in with, "Hey, if you want to hate the guy, hate him for a factual reason." Its interesting that no one who has answered these questions has heard similar rhetoric.

I'm more interested in answers that address the stupidity of people on the left and the right, not in hearing from conservatives that "liberals are stupid and conservatives are usually right" or "conservatives are evil and want to destroy the world and make us worship Jesus" (yes, I'm exercising hyperbole here, but I hope you all get my point.)

Pelagius: I think you have a good point, especially in regard to people thinking themselves mentally superior to Bush, but I would submit that the current administration consists not of small government Conservatives but of big government Conservatives. Our budget has not decreased by one penny in the last seven years. Its a bit of a fallacy for small government conservatives to defend the current administration based on the idea that conservatives prefer smaller government--its true that many do, but not the Bush administration.

WELCOME to the Independent American agenda. Since we Independents look at all sides, and make our decisions based on knowledge, truth, facts, and historical precedence, we receive NO notice, by any one. How ever, just wait until the week before the election !!!!

I do hope my answer doesn't seem partisan either. But unless much mistaken and having heard so much bad talk about the President, I haven't heard of him as a "racist". And regarding having more minorities in the White House or in any other part of Government, if you go back to Clinton's Presidency you'll see same amount of minorities, unless women and Hispanics are not considered minorities as well.

Janet Reno. Donna Shalalah. Vernon Jordan. Among dozens! I would need more time to research in my mind and internet to name more.

Regarding Iraq: Conservatives probably don't believe "lies" about Iraq, because there might not be lies really. It could all be a misperception of the person "reporting" it. After all so much goes on in Iraq each day_one way and the other_that people just don't know what to believe.

I submit that since the creation of this republic there has been a conflict between those citizens who prefer small but strong, and those who prefer larger, government.
Not to mention how wide the electoral franchise should be: can an imperial republic be wisely governed by the rules of a democratic city state?
To make a partisan point, 'liberals' and others insult a president because they feel morally superior to him (or her) so think that they should have his job and change the world as they fantisize it should become.
The question 'If I were king...' begs the next question 'Do you prefer a monarchy?'

I am a conservative. I believe in very specific principles: lower taxes, limited government, personal responsibility, and defeating our enemies. I look at the world through this perspective.

Liberals hate Bush because they hate Christians and think he is a moron. They feel that he stole the election and cannot comprehend that they are the reason why they do not win. Ever notice when a liberal is wrong, they blame everyone but themselves? Liberals have their beliefs that Republicans are racist, sexist, bigoted homophobes. They want to believe it and reality has no impact on this view.

There are no lies to Iraq. We went in because Saddam refused to honor his agreement. Go back and look at why Bush said we are going. Your statement on conservatives is completely factually wrong.

You have to look at the facts, in the way that the people you seem to be condemning see them. Liberals see Bush as incompetent, I have never heard one person, except from the far-left nut jobs call him a racist. As for conservatives believing the lies, who says they are lies, you are looking at this from a schewed prism.

I think people are conservative or liberal based on the way they think. They lean in one direction or the other. They are "like-minded" with that group. Because they are like-minded they believe in the same things that their group's believe.

I will say, that I think there are more people who are in the middle - but those on the extreme ends (liberal or conservative) are the ones that get all the attention.

It is far more entertaining to report on the extremes than on what the masses believe.

This united states of america is going by using a "reset." Globalization motives equalization, and individuals are waking as much as the actuality that they are the wealthy "few" that have been residing off the undesirable "many" for the final 50 years. American Christians are approximately to bump into (up close and private) the different 2/3 of the non-Christian worldwide, and that they don't seem to be waiting for one in each and every of those rude awakening. no longer by ability of an prolonged shot. After the collision, as quickly as the airborne dirt and dust settles, individuals would be lots much less arrogant of their religious ideals, and lots much less prejudiced of their thinking. And if we are a sprint poorer in our wallets hence, we are going to be lots richer in our information.

I think that's a vast generalization that these boards exasperate, in the real world we're all a blend of both ideologies for the most part and reality never got in the way of a good rant anyway, also there are so many new sources of disinformation thanks to the net, couple that with a public that gets it's info in sound bytes rather than research and it's a recipe for stupidity

Perhaps it is the "herd" instinct. I don't know. All I can say is that I try to never take anything as gospel without pretty good exploration first.

As for a "party line", I refuse to conform! I take what I can use and trash the rest from wherever it comes.
