Psychology is the study of the mind. There are a lot of different disciplines, Psychotherapy, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Research, Behavioral, Cognitive, Industrial and Organizational...the list goes on.
A psychiatrist is someone who has studied clinical psychology and has a medical degree as well. They can prescribe medication.
A psychologist is someone with an advanced degree in one of the other disciplines I mentioned.
A therapist is someone who has an advanced degree and is licensed by a State Board to perform counseling (MFCC, for instance).
A "Physicologist" would be someone who studies physics. They're very, very different.

Not all therapists are psychologists. Some are psychiatrists which requires a medical degree. Both require doctorate degrees and intensive internships. Others have masters degrees in anything from counseling, to social work, psychology, etc... Still other therapists have lesser degrees (usually in counseling, social work, or psychology) and they are considered to be para-professionals who work under the direct supervision of other professionals (like a psychiatrist, psychologist).
Many para-professional therapists are quite effective because of life experiences and specific training they have received. Most workers in the field of addiction rehabilitation have limited formal education (less than a master's degree). They can become extremely effective workers who's understanding of a client may be enhanced by a personal experience with drug or alcohol abuse and recovery.
Pro's and con's - The more education you receive, the more your work will tend to be administrative rather than direct patient involvement. Many para-professional therapists prefer working under the supervision of others because they do more actual 1:1 care of their clients. In most settings there is a team approach and lesser educated therapists are utilized to help reduce cost of treatment. Naturally, salaries for therapists is highly reflective of their educational background.
