Regardless if you create a bill of sale or not, you need to make sure that the sale is properly reported. Either go down to the licensing place with them and complete the transfer together or make sure you file the sellers report of sale.

The more complicated you try to make a document, the more likely you could get bit by anything you leave out. Most courts are going to look at a person to person car sale as a no warranty sale.

You will still be liable for any damage cause by the car's driver until title has transferred. You don't need a bill of sale. You need to take the title to whatever office handles transfers in your state & execute the transfer forms.

All yyou have to do is say that you the seller are selling this vehicle, make and model with VIN # ... to so and so, in AS IS condition. As long as you include that part about AS IS condition and as long as you are not hiding anything, you are fine. Disclose everything you know about ahead of time.

put in that the car is being sold "as is" no warranty, seller is not liable for any mechanical or cosmetic defects...NO guarantee

Make sure that you call it a "sale" not a "sell."
The car is sold as-is, no warranties.
