Can you put gray shirts and boxers in as well? Will All brand laundry detergent work?

There are two things to consider if you throw colors in with the whites. Will the color bleed from the colored clothes and tint the white clothes? And will hot water from the white wash fade the colored clothes.

If you are washing in cool water, the colors should be safe from fading. And if you are washing colored clothes that have been washed several times and aren't bleeding their dye any more, you can mix everything together.

Exception: Blue jeans often rub off on light clothes even if you've washed them a lot. And red dye is a problem until the item has faded almost to pink.

Mailordermaven above makes good points. Gray shirts and boxers shouldn't bleed onto your whites, but if you are concerned Shout and Carbona both make color grabbers. You just throw them in with the load and they collect loose dye in the water.

You can use an all purpose detergent, I wouldn't add chlorine bleach, but a color safe bleach alternative won't affect the color of the gray.

Whites only, detergent, bleach and a capful of bluing in the final rinse.

Gray clothes will dull the whites.
