The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, more commonly known as Tower of Terror, is a simulated freefall thrill ride at Disney-MGM Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and at Disney's California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. It is based upon the television show The Twilight Zone. The version of the attraction located at Disney-MGM Studios opened in 1994 and the version located at Disney's California Adventure opened in 2004.

A similar attraction without a Twilight Zone theme opened at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan on 4th September 2006. Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Resort Paris in France will open a fourth version of the attraction in January 2008 as the centrepiece of its movie studio-based park.

The attraction is themed to resemble the fictional Hollywood Tower Hotel. The story of the hotel, adapted from elements of the television series, includes the hotel being struck by lightning on October 31, 1939, mysteriously transporting an elevator car full of passengers to the Twilight Zone. The exterior of the attraction resembles an old hotel with a blackened scorch mark across the front of the facade where the lightning destroyed part of the building. All of the cast members wear a costume that resembles that of a 1930s bellhop. At over one thousand dollars (US) per uniform, it is the most expensive costume in the various theme parks.[1]

It is the third tallest attraction (199 ft) at the Walt Disney World Resort (Expedition Everest is half a foot taller, and the wand decorating Spaceship Earth from 1999 to 2007 temporarily added 41 feet to that 180-foot tall attraction. The Tower of Terror is 199 feet high at Walt Disney World because of FAA regulations that require a fixed red light beacon to be added to the top of any 200-foot or taller building. Imagineers thought that the beacon would take away from the hotel's 1939 theme. At the Disneyland Resort, the 183-foot attraction is the tallest attraction at the resort, as well as the tallest building in Anaheim.

It starts with a group of people that you are with being escorted into a creepy library. The doors shut, and a television in the corner comes on. Rod Steiger, the host of the original series, comes on and tells the story of the missing hotel employees who vanished mysteriously. You are going to take the same journey they took.

Then the library doors open to the next queing area, which is a large boiler room. The main elevators are down(of course) and so the only elevators operating are 4 service elevators, which can hold 25 victims, uh, I mean guests. Once you are seated, a lap bar holds you hostage, uh, I mean in place. Then the elevator starts to rise. I don't want to give too much away, but the things that you will see are freakin' cool. Once you reach the 13th floor, things start getting real cool. The elevator moves forward, and the visuals around you are awesome. Then the elevator locks in place, and then you can hear the sound of elevator cables breaking.

Guess what happens next?

Tower of Terror is a very fast elevator. It looks more frightening than it really is. Don't forget to smile when your picture is getting taken as your car suddenly drops.

And next time, maybe you should take the stairs.....

Basically you go into a room and watch a quick video, then you get into seats that look like an elevaor, and it shoots you up and then down a few times. At the top there is a window so you can look out quickly and see outside. I thought the ride was a little scary, but that was when I was younger. There's also a movie about it.

without trying to spoil it...

First, they changed it from lap bars to seat belts. i don't like heights but i do like this ride. they have it setup so that its random. the number of drops, type of drops, effects, all of that is randomly picked before the ride starts. so you might not see the same effects twice. beginning and end are the same. its one of my favorite rides.

Ok..this happens every time, put a coin, quarter works best, on your knee...the force of going down makes the coin go up, then, when you go back up, the force puts it right back where it started...so cool...
