I am a little mystified at all these "No" answers. I've been to at least 15 baby showers and unless they were at work, there was always wine or champagne served. I would never occur to me not to - doesn't mean everyone gets drunk.
Even with little children present, it's no different than a holiday party. Adults have drinks, kids don't.

I think it depends on the crowd, and if children are invited as well.
My family never has any alcohol mostly because there are always children at our baby showers... all the little girls love baby showers, and once the boys turn around 5 they realize they're the only boys, so they stop coming.
I have been to 2 babyshowers of friends who were adult only brunches w/ mimosas served... the real mimosa's had umbrellas on them and the orange juice and sprite had a fruit wedge on the glasses.
again, just depends on the crowd!

There is nothing wrong with having wine at your shower. As long as your not serving it to children. There are no rules, go with what you like to do....Drinking wine doesn't mean people will get drunk....There are people who enjoy a glass of wine or two without getting loaded. I also agree with TracyS.....

Well, I guess it can not hurt to have a glas of champagne together. As long it does not escalate...It should not turn out to be a bar event, where people only come for the booze. Or leave to go to the bar because there is no booze at the baby shower. I think a decent glas of champagne or wine should be ok. No hard liquor!

Why not??
As long as the baby doesn't have any, and the parent should refrain too.
Guests should be ok for a simple glass of wine though.

I don't see anything wrong with having wine as long as mommy isn't served the alcohol. Maybe a sparkling cider would be more appropriate or a pretty sparkling punch!

No, that's not appropriate.
When your pregnant, you can't have any alcohol and that would be extremely rude to serve it when the mom can't have it.
A shower is for the mom, therefore you should only serve things she likes and CAN have.
Save wine for another occasion.
