First of all, by providing the right size tank with heater and filter for tropicals and now bowls

Then by cycling the tank properly before adding fish to

then by doing weekly maintanance, that means 25% partial waterchanges with a gravel siphon

exchanging the carbon cartridge every 4 - 6 weeks

only feed them twice a day, what they will eat in 3-5 min, and net out the excess food

Leaving the light on only for 10-12 hours during the day, and turning it off for 12 - 14 hours at nights

keeping the temperature at 76-82 degrees

don't put the tank near a window, or you will have green algae growth in no time

Research is great, and I strongly recommend it, but it won't do you any good if you don't follow the recommendations given.
