Developed countries usually have slower growth but not always. For example the US has a higher growth rate than North Korea. In general the higher the child mortality rate and the less opportunities for woman the higher the birth rate. Population growth rate changes also depends on the birth rate 20 to 40 years ago because of the number of women of childbearing age.. Immigration can also have an effect.

Generally, population growth is inversely related to income, so less developed countries typically have higher population growth compared to developed countries.

Population growth is higher in less developed countries. I've never understood why though. Is it that poor people have more s**? LOL

Hey look at similar sized countries, one developed: Japan and one developing: Nigeria.

CIA factbook Nigeria:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ni.html

Population 135 million
Birth rate 40 births per 1,000 population
Labor force: 70% agriculture despite oil reserves.
GDP per capita $1,500

CIA factbook Japan:

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ja.html

Population 127 million
Birth rate 8 births per 1,000 population
Labor force: 4.6% agriculture
GDP per capita $ 33,100

As for the why: Higher illiteracy rates, lack of industrial development, rigid customs and religions that keep women down and birth rate high and political instability, in that a lot of say African third world countries are also dictatorships.

It should make you draw a conclusion that underdevelopment is correlated to higher population growth.
