Probably one that is actually secret and has real power. Not a organization, like most listed on here that aren't that secret and even less likely have any direct influence on the public.

Really, I've always been fascinated by the the Assassin society of the middle east. I cannot remember what they were called. I've always wondered how having that as part of the history of an area effected things like terrorism. But then Japan has the Ninja and they don't breed many terrorists.

The fawcking masons are amongst the most popular, but I'd say the Illuminati I think have had the most influence in the building of society as we know it!
The Knight Templars, however, happen to be involved with the initial stages of secret societies as we know them, therefore they get my vote as the most "enthralling"!
...and yes I do know what enthralling means!

My vote would go to the Knights Templars because of what they tried to do centuries ago in protecting an important religious/historical object. There are books about them--check your local bookstore.
