Gotta go with you on this one, Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt" is probably top of the list. Other good ones would include:

These are songs that I gravitate towards when I'm feeling down and gloomy. I'm not sure why, but sometimes listening to sad songs makes me feel better when I'm feeling sad. Maybe it's the sense of solidarity that comes from knowing that everyone feels sad sometimes.

"One Last Time" by Dusty Drake. He is a little known country artist. None of his other music impresses me very much. But, this one's good. It's based on the events of the Flight 93 on 9/11. It's pretty simple lyrically. But, coupled with the music and his delivery, it's still chilling.
