They usually will if everything is normal with your cycles and you ovulate after a year of trying.
Although like in my case I do not have a period therefore do not ovulate on my own. So she put me on Clomid right away.
Clomid is usually the first fertility drug dr.'s will use.
I would go ahead and make an apt. and see if they can run some test on you to make sure everything is ok.
Have you tried the ovulation test strips? I got a positive from them and I actually ovulated later then I thought. So that might be something to consider.
Good luck and lots of baby dust***********

Most doctors want to wait until you've been trying for at least a year. Some doctors will put you on fertility meds before then if they know that you are having problems like endometriosis, if you're not ovulating, things like that. I've had 2 miscarriages and have endometriosis (although it doesn't cause me pain anymore). My doctor put me on Clomid about a month after my second miscarriage.

It really is up to his/her discretion. My OBGYN diagnosed me with PCOS and put me immediately on Clomid.....he didn't wait.

Generally if you are healthy, they wait a year. Most fertile couples will conceive naturally within a year.
