If you say someone is ACTING stupid, are you saying that you think they ARE stupid, or just the way that they are acting at the moment is stupid?

Obviously if they say you are "acting" stupid, they believe you are not normally stupid; just being so at that moment.

Acting at the moment - but I don't say that - I prefer to mmake it clear I'm talking about behaviour not the person so i'd say something like

That was a pretty useless thing to do/say etc

I would say that they are acting LIKE they are stupid. It doesn't mean that they are stupid in anyway. I hope this helps.
