mainly rest and nurse nurse nurse!!! if baby is young, keep baby in bed or on the couch w/ you and get caught up on some soaps!! it needs time to heal, your body needs to keep fluids up, and the energy to get better.... no quick fixes from everything I've read over the last few years.
this link rocks!!
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/mastitis.html#antibiotics
it has a box near the end that tells you which symptoms really need the attention of a doctor... so check there first!!

You need to be careful, because this is an infection in a milk gland.
A good way is to keep milk flowing out..pump or nurse as much as possible..but you will probably end up on antibiotics.
I had Mastitis when I was nursing and I had a fever of 104.3 and felt terrible!!
Call your doctor too!!

Shower with really warm water on the place it hurts. The more pain the better because it will work it out. Drink a lot of water too. Take a fever reducer if you get a fever. Oh yeah and nurse a lot.

All of the above advice is good. I have heard that raw cabbage leaves will help relieve engorgement and swelling, place several inside your bra and change every hour or so.
