Question

How can I give myself a manicure at home? I reallly want my nails to look good! I have like a Revlon Manicure/Pedicure kit thing...I'd really appreaciate tips on good nails! THanks!

I do mine at home sometimes too. I always do it when I have a long afternoon or some time to waste. I start by clipping/trimming/filing my nails, then going over the nail beds with a buffer til they are shiny and smooth. Then I soak in warm water with some olive oil in it for about 5 mins. Then push back the cuticles with the orange stick. Then go over your nails with polish remover to get rid of any leftover oils. Once that's done, the nails are ready for whatever kind of paint you want to put on. I prefer to do the french manicure thing with the little sticky guides. It looks great when it's all done and people always ask me if my nails are fake because they look so good!

Things you need:
1. cuticle pusher(could be a wooden tool)
2. nail polish(base, top, color)
3. bowl full of water
4. lotion
5. cleansing alcohol.

First, you soak your hands into the bowl of lukewarm water for about 3 minutes. You can also add some scented soap into the water for enjoyment. Then after 3 minutes, lightly pat dry your hands and use the wooden cuticle pusher or your fingernails to push up your cuticles. Don't cut them or they might cause an infection if it's not done properly. Then apply the lotion and after, clean your nails only with the cleansing alcohol. This will remove the oils and lotion from your hands so that the polish will stick. Then apply a base coat to your hands. I would recommend you to use a nail strengthener because it keeps your nails strong and it prevents the nails from chipping. Then add a coat of nail polish. If it's not even on the first coat, add a second one. When you paint your nails, put one stroke down the middle and another on each side. By then, you can add a coat of top coat or you can just leave it. For me, the top coat adds an adorable shine but it makes the nails too thick so the paint might chip off fast. If you are satisfied with the kit, use it, but if you're not then you can buy the same things at the 99 cent store. It's not expensive and the quantity and quality is very good.
