I say keep winning and let the chips fall were they may. Winning streaks are hard to give up, they will not take therefoot of the pedal.

I'm happy for your team. They really deserved it with the way they've played this season. They overcame a slow start but in mid-season they were able to piece the offense and pitching together and since they've never looked back. But you are right, they've got long ways to go. They haven't won a playoff series since '04. I do think the team that they have this year has what it takes. Tex is having an MVP, Jeter has too, and CC is a candidate for the Cy Young. He's got 19 wins and the strikeouts have been high. So I think the Yankees will be a team to look out for in the postseason. Congrats to today's win. Hope you are making plans to celebrate.

What happened...some of you Yankee fans are coming to the realization that the Sox are going to win the East this year and you are trying to make yourself feel better by saying it's better to not win the division? The only thing I will say is that the Wild Card teams keep making the World Series so in that respect I guess it's better...but I will still be happy when the Sox clinch the East because I am tired of the Yankees winning it every year...but just remember this...it's not about how you get to the playoffs...it's about how you play when you are there!

I'm sure they would love to win the division but at this stage getting into the playoffs will serve them just as well. At them moment they are the hottest team in baseball. Trust me, no one wants to play them in the first round. Two out of three in Boston will just about wrap up a playoff berth. The Tigers have four games to make up with just 17 games remaining in the season. I don't think they can do it.
Last year is a great example of how a team (the Cardinals) can get hot at the right moment and win it all. This year the Yankees will do the same.

At this point, it doesn't matter, except that if they Yankees took the division it would have to have meant that the Sox imploded because of a key injury.
I think the Yankees have more to worry about from a series against the Angels than against the Red Sox.

Judging by the fact that Wildcard teams are making the world series I would say yes. If I was a Yankee fan all I want is to get into the playoffs, and not have any season ending injuries to key players.

I'm a Yankee hater...honestly though it's better if they won the division, because if they win the wild card they get a first round matchup with their nemesis, the Angels. Angels will take the Yanks out in three and George and Cashman will be sitting there in the offseason wondering what went wrong and will hire some more over-the-hill guys to come work for their team. Go METS!!!!

Yankee fans should just root for the Yankees to play well period. The Yankees have not been to the World Series for a while now. The last Yankee World Series Championship team dates back to 2000.
The Yankees in the World Series is good for baseball and good for television ratings, good for sports headlines. A New York Series will be good for fans of the Yankees and Mets.
Yankees VS Dodgers or another West Coast team would be even better for TV ratings.

I think that any true fans wants to overtake the Boston and clinch the division title. I don't think it will detract from their playoffs goals and performance if they win. The Yanks do best in Sept. and Oct and the same will be true this year. Just got to get past the Angels and then the trophy for #27 is in the bag.

Alfie. The Spankmees, how original. Is Alfie your real name & come on, what kind of name is the Angels? That's a wimpy team name if you ask me. Angels win one World Series, a few years ago & all of a sudden, Angel fans talk like you all have a dynasty.. The real DYNASTY is baseball is the NEW YORK YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 26 TITLES ANGELS 1. Wasn't Alfie a tv show about an alien from from Melmac?

As much as I am impressed with the Yankees play in the second half, I think A-Rod's post season numbers will be as consistent as they've been in the past. Really really bad. Any team they end up playing will be tough, I'm looking forward to a good post season.
To answer your question, I think its in their best interest to win the division.
