I've learned that promises don't typically hold up. Your better off without expectations, then you'll be surprised when someone actually does something you'd hope for.

I think it depends on the relationship and promise. This is why:
One of my most precious friends from college. She means well put over the years I have learnt that she is not very reliable. It's nothing personal it is just her . So I came to the conclusion that I just have to love her for who she is and not expect much of her.
Now at times you may promise a person somtething and go and think over it at you know it is not right. I think you have a right to change your mind.
For example as the funny guy above stated you could promise him sex and then afterwards offer to help him rob a bank. Then you think about it and change your mind. Why not change your mind if you know it is wrong for you.
If you are married and your spouse promises to pick the kids up from school but does not. I think that you should be mad and have him sleep in the guestroom. The relationship is intimate and you have a right to expect more of him.

I dont think it would be wrong of you to feel disappointed if someone promised you something and then didnt deliver. I would be wrong of you, if you believed them a second time when they didnt follow through the first time though. :) Either way, dont take it personally it says loads about who they are as a person and nothing about you.

It all depends on the person.... trust isn't just given, it's earned. Someone who is trustworthy can be counted on. Anytime you are not sure of a persons character, there is a chance of being disappointed. Make sure your expectations are realistic and that the person has a good reputation, otherwise, don't count on it. (Sad, I know)

If they promise that they were going to do something.....then you expect them to do it!!! Even if they say they're gonna call and they don't.....I understand that a person can get busy, but how long does it take to pick up the phone, dial my number and say, hey, I'm busy but thinkin' 'bout ya????!!!!
