Past result is not always indicative of future outcome in sports. Just because the Angels have all ready knocked the Yankees out of the players two times in this decade all ready doesn't neccasarilly mean that the Yankees would again lose if they met the Angels in the playoffs this year.
And if the Red Sox and Yankees both make the post-season, the Red Sox had better be concerned with them if they play in the ALCS.
No matter how good the Red Sox are, if they don't take post-season opponants seriously then they are likely aren't going to be the ones in the end hoisting up the world series trophy.
That being said your question only assumes that the Yankees will make the playoffs of which itself is good possibility but not yet a garauntee.

The Sox don't have to worry about anybody in October...they will crush all comers...kidding...anyway, I think anything can happen in October (I mean who really thought the Cards would even be in the World Series last year let alone win it) and any team in the playoffs has a chance to go the whole way. I think the only thing the Yanks have to worry about with the Angels is that they are very good at home and most likely will have home field advantage over the Yankees. That is if everything stays as it is right now in the standings...it's still a long two and a half weeks left in the season.

The wild card will play the division winner with the best record outside their division. If the Indians finish the season with a better won and lost record than the Angels that would mean the Indians and the Yankees would play in the first round and the Red Sox would play the Angels. So to answer your question, the Red Sox won't have to worry about the Yankees at all should they get beat by the strong Angels team.

Any team can win any series at any time against any opponent. Heck, if Tampa Bay somehow got a special invitation to the playoffs, they could potentially beat any other team in a five game series. You just never know what's going to happen.
And pathfinder, did you know that hallucinogenic drugs are mostly illegal? Because you must be taking something seriousy illegal if you think the Yankees haven't been playing well lately. Oi vey!

NO, but not for your reason, when the yannks win the east the bosox may still have a wild card shot, if they take the wild card they will loose in the first round to a team not in their division. So the red sox won't have to worry about them in october.
