funny you should ask this question because I just happened to read an article about this in National Geographic Magazine today and what they said was when it starts raining, sheep have tiny invisible umbrellas that pop up and keep their wool dry.

You could say that they do; that is, their wool "shrinks" tighter around their bodies. The colder the weather, the more "shrinkage".
