How to get to Heathrow airport from Stevenage, UK - no trains/underground?

I'm going to the UK on business and need to get from Stevenage to Heathrow for a flight out at 3pm. We are traveling with business associates so do not want to take the train into Kings Cross, then the tube across to Paddington and then the Heathrow Express.

Anyone have any better ideas?

I don't think there is any alternative apart from taxi - but it's a 41 mile journey.
