Bretty, everyone is pulling your leg or picking on you because this question has been asked 783 times.

The real reason for the green dots is to identify the H.I.V. positive players so that the referees don't endanger themselves. I'm surprised that you didn't know this, it was in all the papers.

I hope you found this helpful.

All NFL QB's have a radio receiver inside their helmets so the offensive coordinator can call in the play via radio...The receiver is automatically turned "off" once the playclock has reached "16" seconds. The green stickers indicate the player on the field with the receiver. Only one player on the offensive side of the ball is allowed to have a receiver at any one time. The green sticker allows the referees to monitor that.

Sorry, but I have to correct "hoss" (answer above.) There's no microphone in the helmet. It's one way communication. A player can hear the sideline people, but not talk to them.
And yes, the green dot indicates which player has a helmet with a receiver. A back up quarterback has the same helmet and, if he is on the field at the same time as the other quarterback, he has to use another helmet because only one player can have a "radio helmet.")
And, of course, it has nothing to do with calling a timeout, as stated in another answer.

Green Dots have recently become far more valuable than Gold, Silver, or Diamonds.

These QBs place them on their helmets as a sign of wealth.

Also, they are a mosquito repelant, a cure for blindness, and they power a force field around the entire stadium to keep out unwanted invisible green flying aardvarks.

That signified that player as having a communications helmet. The sticker is to make sure that there are no more communication helmets on the field than are allowed.
