The devil is more of a symbolism. In a book called the bible.
Which has a bunch of stories in it. People of faith tend to believe in these stories.
There is no proof of a devil like creature to roam the earth.
It can be used to scare religious people to do the right thing.
Everything needs a good and a bad. Negative and positive. A ying and a yang.

The devil is Lucifer, the angel of light, who rebelled against God and was casted into Hell. Only his spirit walks the earth but he's strong enough to break you if you are not with the Lord. Documentation, look in the mirror without the Lord you will see the Devil in your eyes.

Don't know about "walking" the Earth, but Satan did appear to Jesus on Earth after the 40 day fasting of Jesus.
