Yes and No. I work at a restraunt that has togo services and some of those people run us crazy. To go people always get paid min-wage, but do remember that they work just as hard as everybody else, sometimes harder. A dollar or two is actually a good tip for togo if you have no idea whether or not to tip. Just remember that if you tip a delivery pizza guy, you should tip your to go waitress. Karma

Yes, you should tip a to-go person. I work for Applebee's and our to-go person makes less than minimum wage. Why? Because their position is considered by the state government as a "tippable" position, and if they get tips the company can pay them less. But what if you don't tip anyway...does it effect the to-go person. Yes, they are required to claim that they made a 10% tip off of every sale they have regardless if they did or not, it's the same for a dine-in server as well. So if you don't tip, the to-go person actually has to pay, out of their own pocket, for you to purchase your to-go order.

Also...someone here said that a to-go person doesn't really "serve" you, they just put things in a bag and bring it to you. This is totally not true. They make sure the cook cooked your food correctly then they box it and bag it, putting in the bag all the extras you need, ketchup, mustard, napkins, silverware, steak sauce, maybe even an updated to-go menu. Now I'm sure you'll say, "well they have to put all that stuff in the bag"...yes, they should but how many times have you gotten a to-go and they didn't. It's happened to me a lot.

So just keep those two points in mind the next time you decide to use the to-go SERVICE in a restaurant...and if the to-go person takes good care of you, providing all that you asked for, give them a 10% tip. All of the to-go people I've worked with over the last 20 years have been pleased with 10%.

Well, my mother owned a restaurant with her friend for about 10 yrs, and worked in several throughout her life. This is the deal, if you go to a restaurant where someone has to bring you your to-go order, such as a Drive In, then yes, you tip them, but if you place an order and pay at the register, no its not really expected. Frankly though, it really depends on the service you receive either way I guess.

You aren't required to. That being said, i do leave a small bit, to be polite, but not a full on "tip". Like, if the total is $4.15, and i have a five, I'll tell them to keep the change.
Tips are required when there is a service performed, and if they aren't serving you, then a tip is not required.
i would suggest, though, that if the amount of food o go is a lot, that you do leave a tip, even if it is a small one, because they are providing a service for bagging all of that junk for you.
At places like coffee shops though, it is expected.

Why is 15% too lots? She nonetheless had to place your order mutually for you, answer the telephone, write up the order, make any soups or salads, seize any sauces, silverware, etc, then carry it to you & make substitute. She continues to be basically making $2-4 an hour.
