Some people speak poorly because they're nervous when they talk to other people. That's where all the "y'knows" and "ums" start coming in. They use those as fillers because they feel the need to keep talking but can't think of any real words to say at the moment. I can tolerate hearing those words occasionally but it does drive me crazy when people keep using them.

It is often simply a matter of LAZINESS. Poor language is modeled on TV and by peers.
Some of us had higher aspirations than a career as school janitor when we were younger. We knew that language skills would be important. Many younger people have low self-esteem and have given up on the idea of competing and find it easier to act stupid. Some wouldn't be caught dead speaking good English - THAT WOULD SEEM WAY UN-COOL.
Too bad, there are huge numbers of creative and intelligent young people out there and they will definitely be using effective language skills to operate in tomorrow's world.

Because of public schools. They are breeding ignorant drones that will simply follow whatever the government tells them to do. To break from this you must learn on your own and strive to be better than the average drone.
Oh and laziness. People are so damn lazy. They don't want to better themselves. They couldn't possibly learn a new word or read a book to broaden their minds. They want to sit around and have everything handed to them.

I was at my son's school the other day and his teacher kept saying Acrosst instead of Across...listen for that one...it drives me CRAZY!
I just sat there grinding my teeth.
Poor grammar is just accepted these days. I wish I knew why.

loosen up a little. i'll admit, it does get aggrevating when their conversation leaks into their papers and essays, and when their every other word is "like" or something...like that. but if you're that bothered by it...well you've got problems. people can't always talk like a dictionary. also, a lot of people simply use "like" as a way to stall, since they can commonly be nervous about what they're trying to say, or they don't know how to explain what they're trying to say.

It is a matter of priorities. It may be important to you and me, but not to everybody.

Because they think it's cool to use slang. Same reason why they where their pants down to their ankles, pierce every thing they can, and blast loud music.
Most people grow out of it by their early 20s.

maybe it's because people aren't all the same, and they have a different type of mind than you, maybe you have a more "linguistic" mind, and they don't.
