If you have minor children you qualify for section 8, and you get that from the housing authority in your county. Some counties have a 2 year plus waiting list though.

Most people are low income by choice, make a different choice and get a regular job.

The first place to check is Social Services...they may be able to help you or give you contact information on who can help you. Another agency that may be able to help is a Community Action Program. I also know that the Housing Authority does issue Section 8 and give rental assistance to people with lower income. Of course all of this is depending on where you live. Check into United Way as well.

I was under rental assistance while I was going to school. I was a mother of two and it helped me tremendously. I'm glad to say I am finally off most assistance with the exception of child care assistant. Stay positive and do your research. I'm sure United Way would be able to direct you in the right direction.

How about a 2nd job?
I know it seems unfair, but I've invested in myself, spent 80k on a college education so I can get a job and afford nice things - only now I have to supplement YOU because you didn't make the same choices in life as I did. How is THAT fair?
You may think my opinion is harsh, but life is what we make of it - and running to the government with your hand out will NEVER get you anywhere in life.
You still have the option of living in a less expensive area too. Life is full of options, make the right ones.

Try your local welfare office. They can assist you with affordable housing and Food Stamps for your food.

Have you tried online jobs, where you can work from home?

It is not the goevenments responsibility to provide you a place to live. Get a better paying job or move somewhere housing does not cost so much. If you don't want to do either you could get a 2nd job.
